Our three-year pathway offers an ideal starting point for students who want to build their creative, technical, and academic skills before beginning a specialist undergraduate degree.
Whether you’re developing your portfolio, exploring different areas of the screen industries, or need additional preparation before degree-level study, this pathway provides a supportive, skills-focused introduction to your chosen field.
The first year of this pathway, the Foundation Year, is a dynamic, hands-on experience designed to expand your abilities across filmmaking, screenwriting, acting, and post-production. You’ll explore the full production process while building core creative and professional skills for your studies and career.

Through key modules such as Foundation in Screen Practice, you’ll gain hands-on experience using filmmaking equipment and creating short films; Screen Industries Research, which strengthens your research and study skills; Writing Short Scripts, focusing on storytelling, character, and genre; and Professional Practice, covering the full production process alongside vital organisational skills.
Your first year concludes with a Final Group Project, where you’ll collaborate to shoot your own short film. This practical experience prepares you for real-world filmmaking, helping you build a strong creative and professional foundation.
