A student guide to how your grades, academic progression, and final degrees are formally checked and awarded at Central Film School.
What is an Exam and Awards Board?
An Exam and Awards Board is a formal panel responsible for making final, official decisions about your academic progression and your degree awards.
While your tutors and course leaders mark your assignments throughout the term, individual marks are not fully official until they have been formally checked, moderated, and ratified by the Exam and Awards Board. The board operates under delegated authority from the Academic Board to ensure that every student is assessed fairly and in line with academic standards. At CFS, the Exam and Awards Board meets three times a year, after the marking and moderation has been completed at each level. Awards and final degree classifications are confirmed once a year in November.

What Does the Board Actually Do?
The board usually meets four times during the academic year across Levels 4, 5, 6, and 7. During these meetings, the board will:

Confirm Marks: Receive final assessment marks from Pre-Board meetings and formally confirm your grades.

Determine Progression: Decide whether you have met the requirements to move on to the next level of your course.

Recommend Awards: Recommend the conferment of final Falmouth University awards for graduating students who have fulfilled all degree requirements
- Ensure Quality and Fairness: Confirm that all work has been internally and externally moderated, and that approved reasonable adjustments or Extenuating Circumstances have been taken into account via the appropriate panels.
