A Comprehensive Guide to Our Facilities, Post-Production Suites, and Kit Inventory
Welcome to the creative heart of Central Film School. Our campus is fully equipped with industry-standard technology and versatile spaces designed to bridge the gap between traditional filmmaking and digital innovation. Whether you are framing your first shot or mixing a final Dolby surround sound track, our facilities provide everything you need to bring your vision to life.
Professional Studios
Our two specialised studios offer the perfect canvas for your imagination, allowing you to build bespoke physical sets or venture into cutting-edge virtual environments.

Studio A: Our largest space serves a dual purpose as a fully functional, 4k screening theatre—complete with retractable seating, a full-size projector screen, a CP4415-RGB 1.38" 4K DCI RGB Laser Projector, and a Dolby CP950 16-Channel 7.1 Surround Sound system. For production, it features a DMX-controlled lighting and multicam setup, alongside our state-of-the-art LED Virtual Production Wall, giving you hands-on experience with the technology shaping the future of the British film industry.

Studio B: Designed for modern digital storytelling, Studio B houses full Motion Capture (MoCap) technology. Here, you will gain the practical experience required to create realistic, dynamic characters and navigate the evolving landscape of global entertainment.
Cinema
Our intimate, 48-seat screening facility is the ultimate space for both education and exhibition. It features a Barco G62-W11 2K Cinema Projector used for lectures and official screenings.
To anchor your education in filmmaking history, the cinema also includes a Bell and Howell Autoload Super 8 projector, utilised alongside our 16mm module in the Practical Filmmaking course. Best of all, this space is bookable for students to organise private screenings of their own projects or films they love.
Edit Suite
Post-production is where your story truly comes together. Our dedicated editing suite features 18 cutting-edge stations designed for a fast, seamless workflow:
- Hardware: Apple Mac Minis powered by the M2 chip and 16GB of RAM for rapid rendering.
- Software: Fully optimized for DaVinci Resolve to ensure maximum efficiency.
- Monitoring: Each station is paired with Audio Technica headphones and dual Full HD 8-bit Rec709 monitors for precise visual and audio editing.
Post-Production Zone
Once your rough cuts are finalised, you will transition to our advanced Post-Production Zone to polish your picture and sound to professional standards.
Colour Grading Suites
- Suite 1 (Advanced 6K Workflow): Features a top-of-the-line Mac Studio (M1 Ultra chip, 128GB RAM, 8TB storage) built to handle massive 6K footage effortlessly. It includes colour-accurate 4K 12-bit BT2020 monitors, a Blackmagic UltraStudio playback card, and two 50-inch televisions for collaborative crew viewings and broadcast grading.
- Suite 2 (4K Workflow): Equipped with a 10-bit colour grading monitor and an 8-bit Rec709 monitor, optimised for efficient 4K rendering and grading.
Sound & ADR Suite
Our dedicated audio suite is split into two professionally designed spaces controlled by a Mac Studio (M1 Max chip) running Pro Tools:
- The Recording Booth: Acoustically treated with specialised vibration pads to guarantee pristine audio capture. Equipped with Rode NTG-1 Condenser Microphones, it is ideal for ADR, voiceovers, foley, podcasts, and interviews.
- The Mixing Studio: Allows for real-time mixing across numerous audio tracks. The room features a 7.1.2 spatial surround sound setup, empowering you to create deeply immersive cinematic soundscapes.
Animation Booth
Perfect for cross-discipline innovation, this space bridges the gap between post-production and our MoCap/Virtual Production studios. It features two Stormforce Crystal Ryzen 5 RTX4070Ti computers, dual 4K monitors, and professional graphics tablets. Running Unreal Engine, these stations allow you to build custom backgrounds, create 3D assets, and import your motion capture performance data.
The Kit Room
The Kit Room is stocked with an extensive inventory of industry-standard gear, including lights, sound equipment, rigs, tripods, and clapperboards. Elite hardware highlights include:
- ARRI Alexa (with 4:3 and ARRI RAW licenses)
- Blackmagic Pocket 6K Pro
- Blackmagic URSA Mini 12K
💡 The CFS Mantra: "On Friday evening, we want to see the Kit Room empty". We firmly believe that the best way to learn filmmaking is by doing. We actively encourage you to check out equipment over the weekend to shoot your own personal passion projects alongside your academic coursework.
Library & Archives
Our on-site library is a quiet hub for research and academic inspiration, containing core module textbooks, DVDs, magazines, and historical film journals. Students can also access a range of online resources via VLeBooks.
Bertha DocHouse Archive
Housed within our campus library, this specialised collection provides a dedicated space for documentary research.
- How to Access: Students can browse titles on-site or request specific archive materials by contacting our Facilities Team.
(Please note: To preserve the quiet study environment for all students, filming is not permitted inside the library spaces.)
