Starting a Student Society
Do you have a special interest or a hobby you want to share with your peers? Here is a guide to form your own Student Society at CFS!
Creating a student society is one of the best ways to connect with fellow creatives, collaborate on passion projects, and enrich your student experience at Central Film School. Whether you want to start a genre-specific film club, a screenwriting circle, or a casual gaming group, we are here to help you get it off the ground.
Follow these three simple steps to officially launch your society:
Gather Your Team
Before a society can be officially recognized, you need to demonstrate that there is interest within the student body.
- You must find a minimum of 5 current CFS students who are committed to joining and supporting the society.
- Tip: Reach out to your peers during induction weeks, post in student group chats, or put up a notice on campus bulleting boards to find like-minded individuals.
Secure a Venue
Every great society needs a place to meet, collaborate, and host events. You have two main options for your gatherings:
- On-site (CFS): You can book available classrooms, screening rooms, or communal spaces through the standard campus booking procedures.
- External Venues: If your society requires a specific environment (like a local cinema, cafe, or park), you are welcome to host your meetings off-campus.
Connect with Student Services
Once you have your members and a vision for your space, it is time to make it official. Get in touch with the Student Services Team to pitch your society.
- Official Recognition: Registering ensures your society can be promoted to the wider student body.
- Budget Enquiries: If your society requires funding for specific resources, equipment, or events, you can enquire about securing a budget during this step. Please come prepared with a brief outline of what the funds will be used for.
