Student Support Plans

Supporting Your Storytelling: A Guide to Personalised Learning at CFS

What is a Student Support Plan?

At Central Film School, we want to ensure every storyteller has the environment they need to thrive. If you have a recognised disability, learning difference, or long-term health condition, a Student Support Plan is a collaborative document designed to map out your unique strengths alongside any potential barriers or challenges you might face during your day-to-day activities and studies.

Whether you choose to formally declare a known disability during registration or informally flag it later to a staff member via email or conversation, we will invite you to complete a dedicated Student Support Plan Form. This form serves as the foundation for personalising your educational experience. You can also access and complete the form yourself here.

How Will it Benefit Your Studies?

The primary purpose of the Student Support Plan is to help us implement reasonable adjustments tailored precisely to your needs, minimizing academic barriers while maximizing your creative potential. Depending on your individual circumstances, benefits and adjustments can include:

  • Tailored Academic Support: This can include adjustments such as a 5-working-day extension for assessments consisting entirely of written work, or the option to record presentations instead of delivering them in person where appropriate for the assessment format.
  • In-Class Adjustments: Accessing regular lesson breaks or obtaining vital learning materials in advance whenever possible to give you extra preparation time.
  • Additional Resources: Provision of specific additional physical or digital resources where reasonable to assist your day-to-day work.
  • Collaboration with Teaching Staff: With your consent, a shareable version is securely communicated to your Course Leader, Module Tutors, and relevant sessional staff. This ensures that your teaching team understands your circumstances and can actively support you without you needing to explain your condition multiple times.

The Step-by-Step Process

Securing your plan is an easy, collaborative process broken down into three straightforward stages:

  1. Complete the Form: Fill out the Student Support Plan Form sent to your email to detail your circumstances, strengths, and requirements. At this stage, you are also highly encouraged to check your eligibility for the Government's Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA) via the official portal.
  2. Attend a Brief Meeting: You will be invited to a supportive consultation meeting with a member of the Quality & Registry Team, your Course Leader, and a member of the Student Services Team. Together, you will review, refine, and agree upon the proposed adjustments to make sure they are both highly impactful and logistically viable.
  3. Implementation and Final Review: Following the meeting, your official plan is securely logged on your HubSpot record and a PDF copy is emailed directly to you for your personal records. Your Course Leader will then communicate these adjustments directly to your teaching team.
